runge is back. But it’s not quite the same flannel shirt/ski hat look you remember from the Seattle era of the early ’90s. Today’s Neogrunge is a little bit rock and roll, a little bit punk, and a little bit “white trash”, but overall a little more sophisticated. Tired of the pressure to look entirely immaculate, but not quite ready to revisit the head-to-toe distressed look, trendsetters are mixing elements of grunge with more grown-up details like tattered jeans and stinky sweat shirts.
Denim is still a key part of Neogrunge, but the exaggerated baggy silhouette has been replaced with a more streamlined, leggy look. Replacing the authentically filthy clothing of the original grunge scene makers is today’s special effects “dirty” denim. First popularized by Kurt Cobain faux-staining effects are now utilized by every denim label under the sun. |

The striped T-Shirt is all important.
Sneakers are essential, but high-tech styles clash with beat-up looking fashions. Old school Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars remain the top choice for true grunge types, but some neogrungers maybe too impatient to wear their sneakers in. There are a wide range of sneakers offered by other brands like Adidas and Air Walk.
Tattoos, which many skeptics thought would make laser surgeons millionaires by today, are back in even greater numbers than before, and they aren’t just tame tribal designs and Chinese characters. Popular now are full color pictures of people and 1950s rockabilly motifs like dice and flames.
Most Nepalis thrive on myth making. They believe that the grunge look is only for teenagers and by the time they reach the 20s most of them have their bellies bulging out and are seen either wearing formals or just t-shirts with loose fitting denim pants.
Remember the most important part of the Grunge dress code is the ATTITUDE. You should have the flair to carry on any dress code and be a trendsetter to lots of youngsters out there. Grunge believes in letting you be yourself and to carry out your individuality and pass it on to others.
Believe in yourself. Be who you are, listen to Nirvana and remember, "Its better to burn out than to fade away". |
